The event will take place in the Media Center at BHSN, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Forum will be moderated by Daryl Neher, afternoon announcer at local radio station WGCL AM 1370. Questions will be composed by students of the U.S. Government classes at BHSN, and all candidates present will have two minutes to respond to each question. The audience will also have an opportunity to write questions which may be included in the discussion. A similar forum two years ago, also hosted by Cougars for Better Education, attracted an audience of 80-100 people, including parents, students, educators, and the general public. This year's event promises to be equally informative and interesting, offering the public an opportunity to meet the school board candidates, learn about the candidates' views, and ask questions of their own. Please note: The purpose of the forum is to provoide an educational opportunity for the community- C4BE is impartial and does not endorse candidates. Approximately 15 people were present. Ms Vitols, Asst principal lead the group. We worked out several subcommittees that we would like to create to make the the PTO run smoothly while spreading out the main organizers. The committees that we are creating are listed below with some of the basic ideas of what the committee would be taking care of this year. (Please note this is by far not a set list or even everything we have discussed doing, this is meant to give you an idea of what kinds of things each group would be doing!) ** Fundraising committee -- box tops, campbell labels, dances, carnivals, etc. ** Social Committee -- community outreach, family events, Community awareness, science fair, spelling bee, art show ** Needs Assessment Committee -- teacher needs, focus groups, school needs, teacher appreciation, finding out where we need to focus our attention to better serve the school, students, and teachers and where our fundraising events should focus ** Communication Committee -- recruitment of other parents, Newsletters, Mailing list, web page development, flyers ** Administrative Committee -- oversee all committees, work with Ms Vitols in any capacity she needs, secretarial duties of meetings, assist with treasury This is the basics of what we are starting with this year. If you are interested in participating in one of these committees, our next meeting is planned for Thursday, November 9th, 6-7:30pm. We will start the process of creating our subcommittees and meeting within those groups so that we can get started! If you are unable to attend that meeting but would like to be part of a committee, please reply to this list serve and I will keep track of that information and let those on the committee know you would like to be part of it. Please include your name, and contact info. The next meeting -- November 9th will also be a pitch in meal. Please bring a dish to pass. The extended day staff will also provide child care again. If you need child care please let Ms Vitols know so that she plans for the appropriate ratio. Hope to see you then.
