Parent Teacher Communication:
3) Would you support the idea of having a class parent(s) in your room to assist with assigned tasks such as field trips, snacks, set up and clean up, other tasks?

6) Would you support the idea of:
A classroom parent who could serve as a phone tree contact person to other parents?
Yes 12_ No 0

Comments: This used to be done, directory of parents a good idea, need parent to create it,
Suggestion boxes can be used to identify broader problems/solutions as they occur in school.
7) Would you use a suggestion box if it were located in the teachers lounge and the suggestions collected and maintained by the PTO?
Yes_13 No 3___
Comments__3 = do not use teachers lounge maybe work room is better location, 1 = promotes complaints
Would you support the placement of a student suggestion box in the library?
Yes 15_ No____1______
Comments and other ideas:______________Library may not be best location_____________________
General comments: Seems like the teachers would like PTO to focus on raising money and reaching out to the neighborhood. The school needs they identify (that we should be raising money for are the playground and the library.
In their individual classrooms, most express a need for some assistance with individualized assistance for students and nonteaching duties. Although 4 listed this as their 1st priority, (3 as a 2nd priority), only 3 listed classroom help as their 1st priority for PTO.
Parent teacher communication is valued and there was a very positive response to the need for classroom directories and ways to communicate with parents about classroom business. Suggestions boxes for students and teachers were also favored as long as they were placed in a location where they would be accessible.
Other suggestions from the teachers:
One on One in the classroom needed (4 respondants)
A SMILE breakfast by invitation for students and parents in recognition of good citizenship.
Develop the outer field for more recreational uses
Use Market Day as a fundraiser
I hope this information will be helpful to all the committee in PTO to help them identify goals and events for the year. I will bring the surveys to the PTO meeting in February. Thanks to all the committee members who worked on this!
